Low Luck Battle Simulator
NEW (2/6/06): I added the option for you to choose the 'difficulty' of the battle by assigning attacker and defender hit remainders. Here's how it works... the number in the box is the number you need or higher for your dice remainder to score a hit.
For example, if you're attacking with 8 infantry, you get one auto hit plus 2 more die points. If you want to count that as a hit, set the box to 2. If that's not good enough for a hit, make the box 3 or higher. Higher numbers make it more difficult to hit.
So, for EVEN ODDS, set both values to the same thing (like 4 and 4 to keep the odds about what they normally would be).
For a FAVORED DEFENDER attack (like the old calculator) set the Attacker to a high number like 5 and the Defender a low number like 1 (the attacker needs a 4 or higher remainder, but the defender hits on ANY remainder).
Note, the default setting for the simulator is a SLIGHTLY FAVORED DEFENDER (att 4, def 2).
For NO LUCK, set both values to 6. This means that neither side hits with any remainder, and you'll see what the battle boils down to if neither of you make ANY of your dice rolls.
NOTE that this thing is real simple (I designed it one evening while getting the crap beat out of me by Djengis). It doesn't calculate 2-hit battleships, sub sneak attacks, or any of that stuff. It's just a real quick dice calculator that will hopefully give you a shot at beating Bayder. No... Bayder... you're not allowed to use it. You either, Djengis!
My primary focus for this thing was to calculate the odds of winning large land battles... tons of infantry, tanks, and planes coming at each other. For sea battles, you can almost always do the math in your head. Remember, this is a learning tool... there is no substitute for figuring out the odds for yourself.
Also, while this calculator uses the Low Luck rules to figure out a victor, the odds are pretty much the same for standard dice games too. You will get a pretty good idea of who should win a battle using this. If you don't know what Low Luck is, ask Bayder. He loves explaining it.
P.S. Oh, some people have emailed me links to some other dice / battle simulators on the web. They're on the LINKS page.
